My Unforgetful Experience

My Unforgetful Experience

When I was told that I would be going to Armenia for my medical course, my first response was always “where is that?”. I was anxious as my flight landed in Yerevan, yet happy to be in the First Christian country. During my first weeks I had a wonderful and welcoming experience here from the calm and creative people of Armenia.

Walking on Yerevan streets I found anything I could desire from fashion, restaurants, coffee shops and beautiful parks. One of my unforgetful experience would be my first Christmas I had spent away from home with my course mates and seniors. The Armenian cuisine was easily distinguishable from that of India as the flavour of food here relies on the quality and freshness of the ingredients rather than on spices. The extensive use of fruits and nuts in dishes are quite different from that of Indian cuisine. Most often the variety of snacks like “khachapuri”, “lahmajou”, “shaurma” and “tan” as drinks end up to be the main meal for most of my fellow students and me as well. Hailing from a city like Delhi, India where the average temperature never goes below 300 C, I was confident that my dream of seeing snow would finally come true. And finally I saw snow, I felt snow.

It was a very different version of snow that I had in my mind. Little rice flakes falling in great number forming a blanket which would turn into hard ice and later melt and form a sludge thanks to the sun or the fat flakes soft and flimsy like candy floss. My snow experience in Yerevan has been an immense delight so far.
